From 6 December 2024, the National Innovation Visa (Subclass 858) will replace the Global Talent Visa. This move reflects the Australian Government’s commitment to attracting global talent to drive innovation and economic growth.
The Migration Amendment (National Innovation Visa) Regulations 2024 updates all references from the Global Talent Visa to the National Innovation Visa across the Migration Regulations 1994.
Here’s everything you need to know about the changes and how they impact prospective applicants.
Key Features of the National Innovation Visa
- A direct pathway to permanent residency for eligible applicants
- Open to global researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, and creatives
- No restrictions on age or occupation, ensuring inclusivity for talent from all fields
- Applications are invitation-only: Apply after receiving an Expression of Interest (EOI) invitation from the Minister
- A total of 4,000 places allocated for the 2024–25 financial year
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must receive a written invitation from the Minister (Department of Home Affairs) to apply.
